For over 15 years, Stryker has pioneered research and development in personal protection for medical environments. We have leveraged this industry leading experience to develop the revolutionary Flyte personal protection system. The Flyte system, a reusable helmet with disposable lens and gown, eliminates cross contamination by providing a protective barrier between medical personnel and patient while addressing previously unattended user needs. The Flyte Suit’s breakthrough design combines superior comfort and technology with high levels of protection against contamination providing user confidence in a variety of healthcare environments.

Stryker’s Signature Drill Portfolio allows neuro surgeons to customize their preferences so that the drill performs the way they want. The system consists of three new motors, four new attachment lines, new cutting accessories, and a variety of user preferences to create their Signature custom-fit drill.

We were approached by Dr. Ron Bochner with an idea for a device that wheels up to the foot of a hospital bed and enables a physician to perform optimal bedside exams with the comfort and ease of a full exam table. This concept was presented with a strong idea and a rough, wood model. The initial design phase began with extensive research and market analysis. This information was interpreted through sketching several ideas and presenting back to our customer. Once a final direction was decided, the team quickly moved to full-size volume study models in order to understand the space and the storage requirements in real world dimensions. The finished design concept was taken to our engineering department for design-for-manufacturing. This involved flushing out the details for the mechanics of the design, manufacturability, and material stress analysis. The cart is now a strong example of our team bringing an idea from concept straight through to full manufacturing.

Traeger approached us for assistance in expanding and differentiating their Town and Country Series product line with a focus on enhancing features, technology, and aesthetics, as well as finding production efficiencies. We began the collaborative process with 2D ideation sketches based on Century 2.0, Silverton, and Timberline’s visual brand language. Using production-quality parametric 3D CAD data, we identified ways to simplify assembly and reduce material waste, improving the customer experience straight out of the box. Additionally, for the Ranger grill, we helped Traeger bring a new-to-the-industry feature (the WiFi ARC controller with a “keep warm” function) to market through rapid wireframe prototyping, tackling both workflow integration and GUI.

Stryker’s VertePort X4 Manifold is a cement-filling device for loading up to four cement cannulae at one time, affording an opportunity for quicker and more efficient procedures. Our approach to this problem started with journey mapping an entire interventional procedure and understanding key areas for efficiency and improvement. Many sketch solutions were generated exploring manifold designs that improve the process of delivering cement. We worked closely with Stryker’s project team to ensure the solution provided real user value, was mechanically feasible, and cost effective. Design details, surfacing, and color finish and material were all aspects of the product that contributed to building a common look and feel for the Stryker IVS product line.

The CORE Console provides a central control environment for an integrated, comprehensive group of surgical power tools. We conducted field observations with surgeons and nurses to understand user-machine interactions in an effort to simplify use steps and reduce procedure time. For the GUI, we developed intuitive navigation features, user preferences, and sequential, simplified screens that guide users through the surgical process. With CORE’s intuitive interface, surgical staff can efficiently focus on the procedure at hand.

Smart Equipment Management (SEM) is an online data module designed to help optimize tool control through device-derived, actionable data. Benefits include, proactive device maintenance, balanced product use, spend justification, simplified service, and asset tracking. Tekna worked closely with Stryker to provide early user experience/user interface concept insights, as well as graphic assets for front-end development.

KitchenAid’s versatile Spiralizer Plus stand mixer attachment comes with four spiralizing/slicing blades and a peeling blade, ideal for inspiring culinary creativity with fresh fruit and vegetable recipes. Tekna worked with the KitchenAid team to develop the appliance carriage, lock, and cutting accessories for practical food tests with their existing prototype through proof of concept. The result? Users can quickly and simply reinvent classic meals with fresh produce, elevating both the presentation and healthfulness of their dishes.
