Job Summary: Tekna is an innovation-driven firm that has an immediate opening for a Production Engineer. The Production Engineer is responsible for carrying out production process engineering duties that include research, design for manufacturing, and development activities. The successful candidate will report to the Advanced Operations Manager. Collaboration with cross functional teams that include Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Industrial Design, CAD, Procurement, Production staff, and Quality Engineering. Tekna’s project portfolio is incredibly diverse covering Medical, Life Science, Residential, and Industrial product categories. Tekna is client focused offering contract design, design consulting, contract manufacturing, and original equipment manufacturing services.

Production Engineers are an active participant in two diverse components of the business:
First, you are primarily stationed in the Operations facility. Here, you will oversee the production lines and all the tooling, fixturing and processes that comes with them; including line balancing, time studies, and workflow efficiencies. Daily interaction with both office staff and production personnel with clear and open communication to ensure smooth-running production.
The second component of the job is to participate in New Product Development (NPD) projects. The Production Engineer is a core team member to NPD efforts from the onset of new projects through launch. Participation in cross-functional weekly meetings with deliverables and deadlines should be expected.
Responsibilities and duties: This candidate is expected to be creative, innovative, hands on, able to take risks, and fail fast as part of a dynamic, “Innovation to Realization” offense. Expect higher levels of responsibility and autonomy as your concepts materialize, release for use, and fulfill their purpose in the hands of the end user. Typical Production Engineering responsibilities include:
Conduct studies in operations to maximize workflow and spatial utilization;
Ensures facility efficiency and workplace safety with heavy focus on operator ergonomics;
Capable of analyzing layout of workstations, workflow, assembly methods and work force capability to maximize efficiency;
Responsible for in-house process validations, must be well-versed in process qualification/validation;
Plan, develop and execute line layout and determine equipment requirements for new products;
Perform typical Production Engineering activities such as:
Design to requirements;
Process risk analysis (pFMECA);
Design for manufacturing considering a wide variety of materials and production processes;
Support the design for serviceability and repair;
Support the design for packaging and labeling.
Qualifications and skills: The following are minimum requirements to be successful in this position:
Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with experience in product manufacturing and/or development or equivalent job experience;
1 to 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment;
Proficiency in CAD modeling (Solidworks or Pro-E/Creo preferred);
Critical thinking, brainstorming, team player, able to create and maintain documented evidence of design and development efforts as part of a quality management system.
The following proficiencies are beneficial to excelling in this position and will be trained however are not mandatory at time of hire:
Risk management and reliability techniques to include ISO 14971 (Risk Management) and IEC60812 (FMEA/FMECA);
21 CFR 820:
Production and Process Control;
Production and Process Changes;
Inspection, Measuring and Test Equipment;
Application of the Scientific Method and Critical Thinking;
Continuous Improvement/Lean experience.
Performs production work in a light industrial and/or assembly environment within the guidelines of Tekna Inc. job description.
Utilize hand and power tools.
Ability to lift 20 lbs occasionally.
Staff members are crossed trained across multiple work stations, quality standards, as well as high standards of safety and workmanship.
Perform assembly activities with the direction of the line leader(s).
